Unpowered Opens Test with X-Ray Laminography

چکیده

Last year’s ITC started a lecture series on unpowered opens testing. All papers last year recognized the importance of an effective method of detecting solder opens and all used some electrical method to detect solder opens, the most common manufacturing defect on today’s surface mount printed circuit boards. However non-electrical methods are available today with significant benefits such as high fault coverage of all pins, no need for bed-of-nails fixtures, capability to detect opens on almost all component types and also capability to detect marginal opens, the opens that pass an electrical test today, but are likely to fail in the near future. In figure 2, the K-pin did not make contact with the solder during the reflow process. Because of surface tension a very different shape of the solder is formed. The analysis of the mechanical characteristics of these two solder joints will clearly detect the solder open.

Introduction ITC 1996 Lecture Series on Unpowered Opens Testing

This is the second year of an ITC experiment, the ITC Lecture Series on Unpowered Opens Testing (UOT). Open solder joints on printed circuit boards have become a frustrating problem in today’s era of advanced component packaging. This forum brings condensed technical and product information to board test engineers (and their managers) that will be immediately useful in their daily endeavors.

Computed Laminography for X-ray Inspection of Lightweight Constructions

Computed laminography (CL) is an alternative to computed tomography if large objects are to be inspected with high resolution. This is especially true for planar objects. Algebraic reconstruction technique (ART) enhance the quality of laminographic images and permits scanning geometries which cannot be reconstructed by conventional tomosynthesis. Thus ART expands the capabilities of 3D inspecti...

Augmented laminography, a correlative 3D imaging method for revealing the inner structure of compressed fossils

Non-destructive imaging techniques can be extremely useful tools for the investigation and the assessment of palaeontological objects, as mechanical preparation of rare and valuable fossils is precluded in most cases. However, palaeontologists are often faced with the problem of choosing a method among a wide range of available techniques. In this case study, we employ x-ray computed tomography...

Applying a Priori Information to Computed Laminography

Reconstructed 3D volumes from computed laminography data suffer from blurring artefacts due to the laminographic geometry. Such losses in quality can be tackled by the use of a priori information about the test object which can be integrated into the iterative reconstruction process. However, this requires the position of the a priori model to be fitted exactly to the measured data. A (semi-)au...

Recent Advances in X-ray Cone-beam Computed Laminography.

X-ray computed tomography is an established volume imaging technique used routinely in medical diagnosis, industrial non-destructive testing, and a wide range of scientific fields. Traditionally, computed tomography uses scanning geometries with a single axis of rotation together with reconstruction algorithms specifically designed for this setup. Recently there has however been increasing inte...
